I fell in love with music as a young man growing up in the Baptist Church in Waterloo Iowa. My mother was the choir director and as a child she would take my siblings and I to her choir practice. The drums, the organ, the piano and the singing always lifted my spirits but it was something about the heavy thud of the bass that spoke to my soul.
During the summer breaks my mother would load us into our station wagon and take us to visit cousins in Chicago. We would grub at Harold’s on 79th street, devour Giordano’s stuffed deep-dish pizza and demolish Jim’s Polish’s on Maxwell but it was the deep house music playing late at night on WGCI that captured my imagination.
During high school I would DJ parties, playing cassettes on my cousins’ stereo and was know as the Unknown DJ but it wasn’t until after College (I attended the University of Notre Dame) that I got the chance to work with The DJ Ice. Ice was friends with my brother and sister at the University of Iowa and had introduced my older brother (DJ Esquire) to the craft. DJ Ice and I connected and started performing at events all over The united States. I was known at that time as DJ Mad. We performed together for 7 years, but with a move out of state I was out the game.
I have returned back to Iowa after 20 years and DJ Ice is still creating magic on the 1’s and 2’s and has allowed me join the DEUS Entertainment family. As I return to craft I look forward to entertaining the world of House Heads as your mix master now know as DJ Touch and Go.
